Hello there. I'm Sohil and in this post I'm going to tell " 10 hidden features of the popular Chating app WhatsApp. "
Now these days all of us are using WhatsApp but still some of the features of WhatsApp are hidden from us and you’re probably missing out these helpful, hidden features.
1. DIFFERENT TEXT FORMATS
WhatsApp allows you to bold, italicize or strikethrough text. To do so, you’ll have to add a couple special characters before and after text that you want to format.
- Bold: Add an asterisk ( * ) before and after the specific text that you want to format e.g. *hello Allinonetuts*
- Italics: Add an underscore ( _ ) before and after your chosen text e.g. _ hello Allinonetuts _
- Strikethrough: Add a tilde ( ~ ) before and after the text or phrases you want to strike a line through e.g. ~ hello Allinonetuts ~These tricks can also be used on WhatsApp Web.
2. STAR A MESSAGE
WhatsApp now lets you ‘star‘ messages. Long-press any message, choose the Star in the top menu bar, and move on. It’s exactly like a bookmark or a favorite. Later, when you want to look up any bookmarked message, go to Menu > Starred Messages and you’ll see them all list wise.
3. MEDIA STORAGE CONTACT WISE ?
To view more details about chat storage i.e. images, videos, songs etc.
Iphone : Go to Settings > Data and Storage Use > Storage Use. A list of contacts will populate, in order of who is using the most storage on your phone. Tap on each contact to view more detailed stats, such as number of messages exchanged, images, GIFs and so on.
Android : Go to Settings > Chat > Chat History > Email Chat to view the same info.
4. GET MESSAGE DELIVERY REPORT
To check what time the message was delivered or read ? Swipe to the left on a message you sent to view those stats on your iPhone.
Android : Long-press on a message, then tap on the “info” icon at the top of your screen.
5. MUTE A CONVERSATION
I Phone : Open a conversation, then tap on the contact or group’s name at the top of the screen followed by Mute.
Android : Long-press on a chat, then tap on the crossed-out speaker icon at the top of the screen.
WhatsApp provides the option to mute a chat from 8 hours to 1 year.
6. HIDE YOUR LAST SEEN STATUS
IPhone :
If you don’t want friends to know your “Last Seen” time? Open
Settings >
Account >
Privacy >
Last Seen.
Android :
Go to Settings > Account > Privacy > Last Seen.
WhatsApp provides three options: Everyone, My contacts, Nobody.
Select the option as per your need.
7. DISABLE READ RECEIPTS
You can also disable read receipts in WhatsApp. This will prevent fellow users from knowing you have read a message.
Open Settings > Account > Privacy and uncheck the box next to Read Receipts.
Note: Turning this feature off will also prevent you from seeing when a friend has read your message. Group Chats will still use read receipts, however.
8. DISABLE AUTO SAVE PHOTOS, VIDEOS BY DEFAULT
If you don’t want to save every photo and video you receive to your whatsApp, taking up space and cluttering your own photos, disable auto-save.
IPhone : Open Settings > Chats and turn Save Incoming Media Off.
This is another feature that’s seemingly missing from Android.
9. USE WHATSAPP ON A COMPUTER
You can use WhatsApp from a computer with relative ease.
The process involves selecting WhatsApp Web within the mobile app, visiting web.whatsapp.com on your computer, and scanning a QR code with your phone.
10. CUSTOM NOTIFICATIONS
Instead of having the same alert sound for every incoming message, you can set custom alerts for individual contacts. Doing so will make it easier to know who messaged you without even looking at your phone.
Android : Tap on the Menu icon when viewing a chat thread, followed by View Contact > Custom Notifications.
IPhone : Tap on the contact’s name when viewing a chat thread, then Custom Notifications.
